Recently, the Heisman trophy candidates were announced. They include TimTebow, TobyGerhart, Colt McCoy, Ndamukong Suh, and Mark Ingram. Tebow is making his third appearance at the ceremony after one win and last year receiving the most first place votes. Gerhart is second in the nation in rushing yards and 1st in points. McCoy completed 70% of his passes and was Texas' 2nd leading rusher. Suh has 12 sacks on the season including 4.5 in the Big 12 Championship. Ingram rushed for 15 TDs and a record 1,542 rushing yds. for a storied Alabama program.
I believe Ndamukong Suh should receive the award this year. The trophy is to be awarded to the nation's "most outstanding player," and Suh has played outstanding this season. He carried the Cornhuskers to within 3 feet on a last second field goal to a near Big 12 Championship. The trophy is normally not given to a defensive player unless they also play offense, like Charles Woodson who won in 1997. Suh has played nothing short of outstanding this season, but may not receive the award due to his position. I believe he is the rightful owner of the trophy this year, but the voters may think different.
