UConn Women

On Monday night, the University of Conneticut's women's basketball team set a women's NCAA record by winning their 71st consecutife game. They passed the previous record held by the UConn team from 2001- 2003. This win came against Notre Dame in the semi- finals of the Big East confernce tournament by the final core of 59-44. Obviously, this record is significant to people that follow and know the history of sports. This is an amazing streak, and it may continue until they pass John Wooden's UCLA men's record of 88 consecutive wins.
Although this is a tremendous accomplishment, I continue to hope that the team does not pass 88 consecutive wins. The number 88 is almost as sacred a number to college basketball as 755 was to baseball. Most people did not cheer when they saw Barry Bonds hit #756. Although the UConn team isn't accused of cheating as Bonds was, it is still a number that a lot of people don't want to see broken. This UConn team should and will go down in history as one of the most dominant in their sport's history, but I don't think they will be able to pass UCLA's 88 wins.
